Circles ist eines der wichtigsten Charakteristika von Google Plus. Der Begriff steht für Kreise. Bei Google Plus sind damit Bekanntenkreise gemeint, in die man seine Kontakte einordnen kann. Freunde, Kollegen, Familie, Mitglieder aus dem Sportverein, ehemalige Klassenkameraden und so weiter. Die Bekanntenkreise kann jeder für sich beliebig anlegen und frei benennen. So kann man seine Kontake wie im richtigen Leben in Kreise einteilen und dann auf Basis dieser Kontaktgruppen („Circles“) entscheiden, welche Informationen mit wem geteilt werden sollen. Dadurch erlangt man mehr Kontrolle über seine Daten und muss sich keine Gedanken mehr darüber machen, dass jede Nachricht bei jedem Kontakt angezeigt wird. Beispielswiese könnte man Gruppen für Familie, Arbeitskollegen, den engsten Freundeskreis, Fußballkumpel und die Mitspieler aus dem Schachclub erstellen. Informationen über die nächste Party würden Arbeitskollegen jetzt nicht mehr zwangsweise mitbekommen. Die Zeiten, in denen jeder Kontakt bei einem sozialen Netzwerk als „Freund“ abgestempelt wurde sind damit endlich Vergangenheit!
Dank schickem Kreis-Design und einfachem Drag-and-Drop-Verfahren ist die Einteilung der Kontakte in die Circles ganz einfach und macht auch noch Spaß, wie das angefügte Video verdeutlicht. Um eine Person zu einem Circle hinzuzufügen wird diese einfach mit der Maus in den entsprechenden Kreis gezogen.
